National Safe Work Month: SafeTradies BBQ
National Safe Work Month: SafeTradies BBQ
At Box & Co, safety is a commitment we hold all year long. To amplify this commitment, as part of National Safe Work Month, we embraced the opportunity to showcase our safety culture by hosting a SafeTradies BBQ at our Logan Water Depot project, in partnership with Downer and Logan Water. SafeTea is an initiative by Safe Work Australia to encourage open conversations about workplace safety over a cuppa. It’s a simple yet effective way for teams to connect, reflect, and discuss safe practices in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Our SafeTradies BBQ kicked off with the team gathering over breakfast and a cup of tea (Gold Blend, of course!) to discuss the importance of workplace safety. The BBQ included:
- SafeTea Discussion: Led by Box & Co Project Team Leader, Des Brodie, this session highlighted real-life examples of safety practices that prevent workplace injuries, addressing topics such as personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard identification, and reporting protocols.
- SafeTea Trivia: To keep things interactive and engaging, we held a trivia session focused on WHS knowledge. Team members tested their understanding of safety rules and practices.
- Next steps for WHS initiatives: The conversation doesn’t end here. That’s why we explored next steps to strengthen our WHS initiatives, ensuring ongoing safety all year around, and well-being across all our projects.
Building a Stronger Safety Culture | As a family business with over 80 years of history, Box & Co’s core belief is community. Partnering with Downer and Logan Water, Box & Co connected with broader industry professionals. Events like the SafeTradies BBQ are crucial in fostering an ongoing safety culture. While we continuously implement safety practices across our projects, gathering as a team to discuss and reflect on these practices strengthens our shared responsibility for each other’s well-being.
Box & Co is committed to ensuring that every team member feels confident in their safety knowledge and empowered to create a safe workplace for all.
As we wrap up the National Safe Work Month, we’re committed to keeping the work safety conversation going. From ongoing training sessions to open discussions on site, Box & Co is dedicated to a culture where safety is seen and advocated.
Safety isn’t just a focus for our sites for October, it’s a year-round commitment.
