QUT’s striking new lunar rover test facility has been designed and constructed to simulate the moon environment with a long list of innovative features.
- A specially modified gantry crane has been installed so the rovers can be lifted to mimic the low gravity environment of the moon
- An expansive curved roof spanning the testing area, provides sufficient height for the gantry crane to operate beneath it.
- Motorised folding glass wall panels allow the facility to be opened up, providing easy access for equipment
- To simulate the powdery moon surface, the testing bed has been covered with a unique blend of silica-free, processed bluestone and powder glass.
- Striking laser cut, indigenous themed steel screening around the building has been backlit so that it lights up after sunset
