The works involved significant demolition, as well as new structural work to underpin existing walls and form the new auditorium steps and slabs. With site access restricted to one relatively small opening in the heritage facade, completion of the project was akin to key-hole surgery.
The fit-out elements included full AV systems and an electronic glass switching system – allowing the occupants to change the glass from clear to opaque at the flick of a switch.
This project involved revitalising UQ’s first lecture theatre and tutorial spaces to deliver a 180-seat lecture theatre, and two smaller seminar spaces seating 30 and 54 students.
